Originally built in 1907 for the German railway net work, No. 99 3353 was bought and restored to working condition by Tony hills. It was used on the Beacon Mountain Railway covering over 125,000 miles until the line was extended when now powerful traction was needed.

Margret was one of four of her class ordered to work on high level slate workings, being whitdrawn for service in 1950. Originally thought to be unrestorable, she was returned to steam in 2015 with a new boiler.

Built in 1916 for use by German army in the first world war, these locamotives were designed to go round tight bends with a unique hollow axies which allowed the wheels to articulate within the ridged frame.

Three of these tank engines were built by GWR Swindon Works for the Vale of Rheidol Railway in 1924. They were built with external valve gear for ease of maintenance and more substanially than other norrow guage locos. This overengineering means they have all survived pulling regular service for over 100 years.

One of four 'Wren' Class locos in the UK, No. 3114 was built in 1918. Thier samll size made it easy for contractors to move them between sites for the Wenallt Service Reservoir, Cardiff. Returning to steam in 1962, she movered about until arriving in the Vale in 1997.

The first of three locos built for the Spanish coal mining industry in 1985, and has been in storage since arriving in the UK in 1969.

Fire Queen is the oldest surviving narrow gauge locomotive in the world and is based on an 1847 patent by Thomas Crampton. It is one of two identical locos built for the Padarn Railway, which conected the slate quarry with the port at Y Felinheli. Both engines were replaced in 1886, the sister loco, named Jenny Lind after the owners favorite oprea singer, being scraped. Fire Queen was placed in an engine shed museum at the insistance of the quarry owners daughter, who had grown fond of the engine, where it remained barely seen untill 1969.

No. 9017 is the sole survivor of it's class and was stabled in thus very building that is it's current home!
